Snow Scene In The Garden Of A Daimyo
In this rare winter piece, based on the work of Andro Hiroshige – the Japanese master of snow – the psychedelic patterned kimono creates an exuberant contrast with the gouged-out big, soft snowflakes. Daimyo is a generic term referring to the powerful territorial lords in pre-modern Japan who ruled most of the country from their vast, hereditary land holdings. Subordinate only to the shogun, daimyo were the most powerful feudal rulers from the 10th century to the middle 19th century in Japan.
